We are employees throughout the Social Security Administration’s (SSA’s) Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR). Attorneys comprise most of our bargaining unit, but we also represent Paralegals, Legal Assistants, and IT Specialists in some offices. Our Executive Board consists of the President, Executive Vice President and Chief Steward, Vice President at Large, Secretary and Treasurer. Chapter 224 was established in 1982 when hearing office attorneys organized nationwide and voted to be represented by NTEU. NTEU represented HHS Regional office employees and employees in Region VIII hearing offices, ultimately certified as the NTEU Multi-Region Chapter. NTEU merged the Chapters into Chapter 224 with two units, the professional unit, and the multiregional unit. Each unit had their own contract until the 2014 Agreement.
Our Bargaining Unit
We are in ODAR hearing offices, National Hearing Centers, Regional Offices, Decision Writing Units, National Case Assistance Centers and case processing units. Chapter 224 represents approximately 1800 ODAR employees nationally. NTEU represents over 150,000 federal employees at 31 different agencies.
What We Do
We pursue interests germane to attorneys and traditional labor interests for federal employees – wage and salaries, benefits, health and safety, family-friendly workplaces, fair performance assessment, and job security. We assist employees who are subjected to unfair treatment or lack of due process in their jobs.
